It is a glass top and I accidently dropped it when taking it out of my cupboard and it fell a number of inches. I was once happy to see that the glass lid did not smash. That gave the impact truly special as I felt being glass that it might easily smash. I've applyd it once for making meat sauce and it looked to be simply advantageous.
